Outdoor Advertisement: Strong Winds Can’t Mess with Mesh Banners

A banner is considered to be a great outdoor advertisement since it can withstand the elements and it can be reused. This inexpensive solution allows you to target a certain demographic and it will last for a long time. Unlike radio or a TV advert, a banner is simple to make. There are various types of banners today but one in particular that can blend within the outdoors is the mesh banner.

Mesh Banner

This type of banner has a flat woven construction with tiny holes in it. The woven design of outdoor mesh banners makes them viable for digital printing and available in two different options.

An open weave mesh banner has a loosely knitted weave. It is usually manufactured with 50% material and 50% air breathability in mind to allow for maximum airflow and solid print quality. An open weave mesh banner is typically about 175 gsm (grams per square meter).

Closed weave banners are tightly knit and offer 80% block out – best when you want some privacy. Whilst they also provide better print quality, closed weave mesh banners restrict airflow – not ideal in high-wind and coastal areas. They are made with 80% material and 20% air breathability in mind and are usually around 280 gsm.

Some may confuse mesh banners with a shade cloth but the latter is a coarsely woven and a rough material, a mesh banner is just a finer version of that. Mesh banners are used to advertise a project, event or a brand, to serve as a privacy screen, or to limit the amount of dust and debris coming out of a construction site. When it comes to work sites, a mesh banner can also prevent ongoing activities from distracting people passing by.

Benefits

Windproof

Because of the holes in the fabric outdoor mesh banners are able to let wind pass through. This means that the signage won’t be disrupted by the banner flapping around in the wind. If you want to place a banner in a windy area then a mesh outdoor banner is your best bet.

Lightweight

Those little holes also make mesh banners very light so you can hang them up safely on wire fences and other vertical surfaces. This also means less hassle when it comes to handling and moving them from one place to another.

Don’t Block Light

The holes also allow light to pass through which means that you can hang a mesh banner over a balcony, on scaffolding or in windows and still have some sunshine peek through.

Mesh vs PVC & Vinyl

Although mesh banners are not as strong as PVC or vinyl they are still a strong material since they can withstand strong winds. PVC & vinyl are both extremely durable but they are not as versatile and as lightweight as a mesh banner.

Maintenance

One way to take care of outdoor mesh banners is to clean them properly since overtime dirt and grime can build up. Avoid using chemical based or bleach products as they can damage the print, instead wipe it down with a damp clean cloth. If there is still dirt after that, use a very mild soap and a little bit more elbow grease. Storing mesh banners should be done by rolling them up, avoid having them folded or scrunched. This can create lines and creases which affect the overall look of the banner.

What to Pay Attention To

Number of People

If your business is going to be at a convention then you need to consider the number of people that are going to see the banner. For example, if it’s a small event then you might get away with a smaller banner but if it’s a large convention then you might want to consider a bigger banner. The size of the banner will also depend on the surface it’s going to be hanged on.

Design & Message

The message you want to get across needs to be clear. If you have a long headline then the size of the banner needs to increase too. But, if you are putting a lot of graphics, your company logo and other information you might want to change the design. When it comes to the design of the banner, the less you have the better. A simpler design will allow you to portray your company in the best light possible without all the clutter.

Event Space

If the event is going to be indoors then consider the amount of space you have for your banner. This can also limit the amount of information you can put on the banner so do keep this in mind. If the venue is small you can go with a smaller banner but if it’s a big one then a larger banner is almost inevitable. Don’t always go with a larger banner though as sometimes this can make it difficult to install it in a small area and it can also look out of place.
